July 12, 2024, Dallas, Texas /PRNewswire/ — AT&T (NYSE:T) discovered in April that customer information had been unlawfully taken from our workspace and stored on a third-party cloud platform. To determine the kind and extent of the illegal behavior, we started an investigation and consulted with top cybersecurity specialists. We’ve taken action to block the unauthorized entry point. In an effort to help law authorities apprehend those responsible for the event, we are cooperating with them. We are aware that a minimum of one individual has been captured.

The files that comprise AT&T records of calls and texts made by almost all of the company’s cellular customers, customers of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) that use AT&T’s wireless network, and AT&T landline customers who communicated with those cellular numbers between May 1, 2022, and October 31, 2022 are among the compromised data, according to our investigation. Records from January 2, 2023, for a very tiny number of consumers, are also included in the hacked data. The phone numbers that an AT&T or MVNO cellular number called during these times are listed in the records. One or more cell site identification number(s) related to the interactions are also supplied for a subset of entries.

The information in the data does not include phone conversations or text messages, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, or any other type of personally identifying data. Additionally, many common information that you see in your usage details—like the time stamp of calls or texts—is not included. Even though customer names are not included in the data, there are frequently methods to locate the name linked to a particular phone number utilizing freely accessible internet resources.

We do not currently think that the data is accessible to the general public.

Customers are, as always, our first focus. Customers, both past and present, whose information was compromised will receive notification and resources to help safeguard it. We deeply apologize for the situation that happened, and we’re still committed to safeguarding the data that we handle. For additional information, customers can visit att.com/DataIncident.
